Location: Halifax NS & Esquimalt, BC, January 2000 ($14 million each)
The building is designed to provide year round training capabilities in live propane fueled fire fighting, flood control and nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) safety and containment. The facility has 15 live fire training rooms. The trainers are exposed to realistic fire and smoke, light and heat and are taught in proper fire safety and suppression techniques. NBC training deck is built to simulate the deck of a frigate at sea. Flood control training takes place in two separate floodable rooms with operator controlled pressurized tanks. Flood rooms are constructed on a 15 degree list to give trainers the experience of simulated hull breaches.
Mansour and Associates were responsible for the conceptual design of the Fire Props and control systems as well as the mechanical systems for both facilities. These projects, built simultaneously in both Halifax and Esquimalt, are state of the art fire fighter and damage control training facilities designed to meet the safety training requirements for the Canadian Navy in response to the renewed naval fleet of frigates and MCDV's as well as acquisition of the Victoria class of submarines. |
